I wonder if all those Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court might take marriage back from federal government meddling and put it back in the hands of the state governments? But it doesn't even belong in state governments' hands because marriage is not a government issue. It should be back exclusively in the hands of the church, in my opinion. And, while I'm not a Roman Catholic, I believe they get it right by not permitting divorce. I believe that most aligns with Jesus' teachings on marriage.

I agree on the marriage not needing to be at all a ‘state’ - big or little s - thing. And as a Catholic, currently going through the process of an Annullment, I can tell you our position makes you think long and hard, before you call it quits.
What are the grounds on which they allow an annulment? I would think it is considered different than a divorce, as if to say a marriage never happened, or should not have happened due to fraud or something, right?

Correct. It is a determination, by a tribunal - diocesan level, but appealable to Rome - that there was never a valid marriage to begin with, due to grave defects like fraud, coercion, impairment, etc.
