It's similar to the situation in cosmology. We have decent theories to account for how things developed after the Big Bang, but no explanation of how that happened in the first place.

Yes, nobody can explain the zero-to-one event. What came before the Big Bang? What came before God? Both evolution and religion require faith and the acceptance that something has always existed.
As for me, I think weβre living in a simulation. π
But even those theories require crazy math and unknown and unfound stuff like dark matter. There are theories, that support a young creation that explain everything we see without all of the adjustments and rescuing devices to make them work. There is a great book by a Dr. Hartnett explaining how Cosmological physics (one step beyond relativistic physics) can explain everything.
