In November 2019, I pre-ordered a cybertruck. In June 2024, I took delivery of my cybertruck…which didn’t involve them delivering me anything, it was my wife driving 3 hrs with PoA documents to go pick it up. The vehicle “came with” Full Self Driving, hub caps, and an off road light bar…which arrived separately over the following 12 months… The truck “came with” a wall connector and electrical gateway that would let you power home outlets with the vehicle battery. I just got the gateway and wall connector installed in the back garage…sorta…the ostensibly Tesla trained electricians almost set the gateway on fire upon testing…I have a video of it smoking…bear in mind this is testing they would not have done were it not for me requesting proof they installed it correctly (since it took 3 days and this is the simplest install job possible…very few circuits and all circuits can be powered by the truck battery though the gateway, unlike houses where you have to pick and choose). I like Tesla being forward thinking, but everything takes far longer than they imply…and it’s very much buyer beware. I suspect someday Tesla will be a battery and software company…they need huge product margins to pay for recall and warranty repairs (for which I’ve had 4 visits in 18 months of ownership and I haven’t even hit 10,000 miles on it yet).

I’ll do you one better, I should not have sold 7 bitcoin to buy a 2017 Honda minivan…that still hurts. But for the CyberOven, I wasn’t so dumb. I borrowed the dollars and kept the bitcoin. Price was ₿2.25 bitcoin the day I had to pay for the CT and today the price (with financing costs) is ₿1.78. I am quite hopeful the toal cost will be substantially less over the next 5 years…but we shall see.

Yup. I was driving a 2008 Kia Sedona minivan which was our only vehicle in residency. I live 2 miles from hospital, so it’s not like I really needed a vehicle at all…and eventually I realized bitcoin price was just going up and up so I was more keen on stacking sats than just getting a new vehicle. I’m very glad they didn’t have cybertrucks available for so long after I ordered…I would have repeated my 2017 mistake of selling 7 bitcoins to buy my wife’s then new replacement minivan.
