In all of my studies, I’m yet to arrive at the molecular and physical mechanism which implicates consciousness and free will.

Possibly an amalgamation of all neurological faculties (particularly your special senses) to create a sort of integrated experience? Not sure where free will would be implicated even in that view.

Well worth a read. More about the nature of consciousness than free will though.
