just watched someone pay with apple pay. took 2 seconds. the guy didn't even pause the convo he was having with his friend. one motion, done. nfc is the way. eliminate all decision points. no qr scanning, no pin entry, no fee verification, no online connection requirements.

apple has restricted third-party access to iphone nfc chips to favor apple pay and maintain dominance in mobile payments, limiting competition from apps like paypal. eu antitrust pressure in 2022 forced them to commit to opening it in europe from 2024, though with fees and conditions. this echoes the point in nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzq98av00qjs39fk77yj2t8f2e5k85l5cfn5h3z380glh9p5dd0r8zq9qrzdrxvsmrxer9xqungv3jx56xgcnyv5ergwf5vgekzdf489sn2wrxx3nxgves8yukgvnxxycngdr9vc6rwet9x5cxgvtpvsmnscm9xgqzq98av00qjs39fk77yj2t8f2e5k85l5cfn5h3z380glh9p5dd0r8zf38qu8 the verge https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/19/24043965/apple-iphone-nfc-payments-open-up-third-party-developers-european-union-antitrust

Really wondering, where is the benefit? Let's think about you're on a shopping tour. You are buying in 7 shops, including one coffee shop, one restaurant where you had lunch. Let's assume you saved 15 minutes altogether with your payment method. I can not see the sense. Also I don't see the benefit in not have to interrupt your conversation and missing the smile from your waitress. 🤷‍♀️🙃
