It's not just the relays you use. It's ALL relays that are publicly writeable. If you care about privacy, use a VPN or TOR.

Periodic reminder that your relays see absolutely EVERYTHING you do on Nostr. Regardless of which Client you use. They literally see the app downloading zaps, replies, and reactions when you scroll your posts in real time. So... MAKE SURE TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE and that you TRUST THEM with that information. Nostr is just like a browser. The server has to know what you want to see to send it to you, and that gives them the power to track you and see what you are asking for. There is no way around it. I can't stress this enough.

VPN or Tor help, but they don't necessarily fix it. All relays can track you with the filter information alone. With Tor, they will not have your IP but they can easily know which pubkey you are.
And what about the media file servers? I guess they are less obvious for tracking people... But...
Pub Key is a key for everything on #nostr So yes, your moved are watch by relay that process and store your datas. If you care about it, just create anonymous profile like me. If you don't, just use your identity, like you do. As you said there is no way around it. Every good feature come with a side effect. But it is a good reminder, for the ones who didn't know it yet. Thank you for that.
And i could add, it is just like #bitcoin. You can publicly see every move of BTC on the blockchain. The problems come when or if your identity is linked to theses moves. Because it is a way to know what you do personally even fiat bills have better privacy because the only person who know your identity when you spent your money is the one you give money. With BTC all the history of transactions attached to your(s) wallet(s) are linked to your person (in case of KYC, and without using tools to "hide" your transactions).

Turns on TOR for all functions in Amethyst
I setup a test relay and I sat there looking at events in real-time. It was like watching a movie. Very entertaining.
