Gigantopithecus blacki was a giant extinct ape from Asia, and is a popular candidate in cryptozoology for inspiring Yeti legends, as it was huge (up to 10 ft tall), lived relatively recently (until ~100,000 years ago), and overlapped with early humans, making its memory plausible in folklore.
While it's a compelling link for the Asian Yeti, its connection to North American Bigfoot is less direct, though some speculate it crossed the Bering Land Bridge.
