I hear you – but zaps was something no other platform had, so it had power to bring people in. I think we have still yet to see the full power of Nostr events working together across a large enough network of apps (and powered by native payments). When the big thing hits, it's going to be out of left field, like it almost always is. It's going to be something no one expected, but will feel super obvious as soon as you see it.
