So I've been looking at laptops for 2 days now, which means I'm an expert on all things laptop related. And this is what I've found.
Contrary to reputation MacBook air is now the affordable (brand new) laptop option. Which is insane.
(I am not using the laptop for gaming really, besides occasional v v old games ).
I'm also surprised someone like xiaomi hasn't stepped into the laptop market. They seem to make redminook pros for the Chinese market, and I think an affordable actually good macbookpro or xps alt would be extremely popular.
This is my report.
Please do not zap me, just send me a free laptop in the post instead. Thank you.

Yeah I was looking at those. But I sort of don't know what I'm looking at lol. There are so many options, you might get a bad vendor, or no warranty etc etc. I think I would need to do too much searching, setting up alerts, haggling on price and general faff to get it. My life is extremely tedious as it is without adding this extra task. I think brand new is the way for me personally. But this is a ymmv scenario
If I have to:)
It got a bit worse now since everyone started swaping put ssds for smaller ones and everything has less ram all of the sudden, but generally known reputable providers who refurbish fleets of large companies tend to be ok, tho my exp is all from europe
My next one is gonna be a Framework 13, potentially pro. It may cost slightly higher than its competitor for its class but in return you get a fully modular laptop super easy to upgrade that can last you 10 years and save you more money in the run.
Oh and you’re funding a company championi right to repair

yeah, the price put me off. Can't be spending that
The last one I got had no SSD. Thats pretty common for resellers nowadays. Good price on the machine, had to order an SSD because it was M.2 only and I only have 2.5" drives, 256GB for what I got 2TB for a year ago, and I'm so not used to such a small amount of drive space anymore. I never would've thought I'd be budgeting storage again.
yeah 256gb is rough, i have one for a vibe box and i have to avoid doing any rust projects on it cuz the space just disappears
