For Christians, Christ is the fulfillment of what the nation Israel foreshadowed. He is the Son that was called out of Egypt (Hosea 11:1/Matt 2:15). He is “My Servant Israel” of Isaiah 53. So, using the NT to interpret the OT, if you bless Christ, who is the true Israel and heir of Abraham (Gal 3), you will be blessed. And if you curse Christ you will be cursed.
I am amazed at the total ignorance of this scripture. In this context, God is speaking directly to Abraham, and by extension, his descendants. Now, with the understanding of the New Covenant through Christ, the term "Abraham's seed" has taken on a broader meaning. According to Galatians 3:29, "And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise." This means that believers in Christ are considered Abraham's spiritual descendants.
Thus, the blessings tied to Abraham ultimately extend beyond the physical nation of Israel to include all who are in Christ. Through Jesus, the blessing of Abraham has reached the Gentiles, so that by faith, we might receive the promise of the Spirit (Galatians 3:14).
This New Covenant perspective enriches our understanding of biblical promises, centering them on faith in Christ rather than nationality, aligning with how God extended His grace to all people through Jesus. It's a beautiful picture of unity and inclusion in God's family!
