Or it is just LMDB and a simple byte flip on a machine without ECC or SSDs with faulty 512KB atomic writes.

this is gonna get to be a worse problem over time. x-rays are normally absorbed by the thermosphere (above the ionosphere) but when the magnetic field is weak, a lot more X-rays go to ground (and cosmic/gamma). these will increase error rates on memory, going forward.
the countermeasure is to be underneath about 4 feet of solid dirt.
mm, could be some corruption like that yeah I suppose. Tho this is server hardware and not too consumer grade.. I saved all the stack traces and data for a possible rainy day project.
