What privacy issues are we talking about here? RE the UX: Could just let the user decide if they want images to autoload or if they want them to be blurred/not loaded by default? That would let the user "be in control" of it's own UX in this scenario

Same issue with pixel images in emails, if you load them automatically they can be used for tracking and analytics. Maybe not too big of a deal but still. Also loading large images would waste cell data. But yes making this an option will probably be the way to go, default "click to load"
