Freshly roasted mesquite beans 😋 Benefits of mesquite: -grows like a weed even in this arid environment -doesn’t need additional irrigation, but benefits from rainwater-harvesting earthworks -naturally very tasty and slightly sweet -grown on my property, I didn’t need a car or delivery to get it here -great substitute or addition to coffee The raw beans can also be ground into a flour which requires a more serious grinder, but I hope to do this on a big scale one day. My long term dream was to grow my own food and become self sufficient, so this has been my first taste of that and felt very fulfilling and healing 😌

It sounds like an awesome plant for your location. A deep tap root to find water & break up the soil. Nitrogen fixing. I bet it would regrow well from pruning, but those spikes seem gnarly. I reckon it would be good feedstock for making biochar.
