This assumes that its worth it to them to rent your hardware vs just building your own. The goal here is control, and a system like that doesnt achieve control. The cost to them is buying hardware wholesale in bulk, vs renting our hardware and paying us over time at least what the cost of it is. If the output is more valuable to the owners of smaller hardware setups than they pay, people dont rent it out. If the cost to them is more than buying their own hardware and the architecture build out for such a decentralized infratsturcture, they dont do it. The incentives aren't there. You won't participate in the Borg as a compute provider. It has already more than slightly improved human output. Key word here is human output. The architecture of these systems are such that they cannot actually think. They're crowdsourcing past human thinking to help humans who do the thinking to use already imagined solutions to problems to reduce their workload. Very valuable, but the thing cannot imagine anything. The top humans are imagining the world into existence. AI is just a lever, a way to offload the rote work and focus on the imagining part. A panopticon can be built using this technology. But a system that directs human progress cannot, all ot can do is help manage the direction given to it by the imaginative among us.
