I then sent this leather to the US for splitting (thinning). I was really worried about the package getting lost on the way because my whole career relies on it.
The package was delivered by UPS but I wasn't receiving news from the company doing the splitting. I reached out and after 2 days they told me they couldn't find it. They suspected having sent it back with their out going UPS packages by accident. I immediately entered solution mode to find a way to solve this but nothing was perfect.
A week later (today) they reached out to tell me they located the package and are working on it right now. What a relief...

Can recommend Keystone Leather in Newberry (Williamsport) PA
Does not seem to have the kind of leather I look for and I doubt they offer splitting down to 0.5mm (not many places do).
I bet they do. Keystone is more geared to soles / horseshoe pads / etc but same guys run RJF leather. Just texted about 0.5mm splits. Great people. (Worked there for 5 or so years)

Besides RM leather I have never seen someone offer it officially. I thought it requires a machine most people don't have.
I don't need it right now but it's good to know there's an other option if necessary.
What do you mean by iron in this context?
It’s a unit of measurement for thickness of leather

Yeah they’ve got the tools to do it. Great people. Small family business and have been in the leather industry for decades. Very knowledgeable. If a need is ever there, give them a shout!
