I’ve been working on a refactor for two years that has still yet to be merged 😅 i get it
+1 💜🫂😁
Longest I've spent on a refactor was 8 months lol. A good chunk of that time was spent on pen & paper functional design.
it can't die soon enough
2 years is 🤯
kmp-tor 2.0.0 was a complete refactor from 1.x.x and took almost 1 year until an alpha release was able to be cut.
Sir, I love Amethyst and hope it never dies.
if i used amethyst on my 5gb moblie plan i'd have no bandwidth remaining after about an hour
i fully believe that. i've looked at this before and amethyst uses so much data on both wifi and ceullar. i also use amethyst *a lot* so im partially to blame.
vitor doesn't care about us poor plebs, he's got his fancy home internet and doesn't even think about the fact he's building a mobile app that is designed to be used on mobile networks that not everyone has cheap bandwidth for
how should he work on this? i doubt he wants to implement an image proxy service for image quality reduction. that's a centralization factor.
pretty sure media fetching is not all of the reason, it also runs off fetching shitloads of events from all over the place as well, and the constant draft saving, which sends the whole event over and over and over again, when it should be at least waiting a while to do that since you aren't going to be composing on two devices at the same time
there's dozens of ways to reduce the bandwidth problem, he just doesn't care, and throwing your hands up at "centralization" problems is hilarious while his app is practically the single point of failure of android users and changes he keeps on making that make interop difficult for other devs, idk, maybe i'm just cynical but i've grown to hate the nostr dev establishment with a passion, and the more well known they are the more they disgust me
