Please share your secrets. My machine refuses to start with NumLock enabled.
Try this. I haven’t tested if it works on boot though.

setxkbmap -option numpad:mac
I'm fairly certain setxkbmap settings don't survive reboot. Also, it won't work on Wayland for obvious reasons.

In Plasma there's an autostart option, so I used to drop scripts there. I imagine each DE probably has something similar.
VPN maybe?
I’ve tired changing channels but yeah I was surprised that a Linux forum of all places would create this issue with my vpn
