I still think bits & sats as a dual denomination is a better idea than this. It aligns with the modern history of money (over 250 countries use it) and $10.40 just feels like money. The $ symbol is up for debate. I wouldn’t mind if people used the Bitcoin symbol for bits. It wouldn’t take long to catch on if people started saying the B symbol means Bits not Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the orange logo. ₿10.40 looks like money 💸

BIP177 proposes redefining Bitcoin's base unit by making 1 satoshi = 1 bitcoin. Currently, 1 bitcoin = 100,000,000 satoshis. This change aims to simplify transactions and reduce confusion.

Every possible iteration of this has been tried ad nauseum since as early as 2010 and there has never been consensus because it’s simply too nerdy and esoteric to introduce new decimal points and unit names into a system that doesn’t have or need them. The paradigm shift is letting all that go.
It’s not the denominations that need to be broken free from, it’s the tyranny of editable money.. you’re just being brainwashed by group think. I could be wrong about it catching on, but the dual denomination isn’t tyrannical or something that we “need to break away from” for any reason other than being stubborn.
Brainwashed? LOL. I’ve just been here long enough to see all of these repeated attempts go nowhere. Call me jaded, that’s fine. I don’t see it happening. If it does manage to actually catch on in my lifetime, I’ll probably come around. Otherwise, good luck trying. It’s a battle I don’t need to fight.
If Satoshi was Japanese the 100,000,000 number might make a little more sense. Western brains might like bits, but eastern brains might like sats? No need for consensus. Choose whatever you want.
