You can’t predict the future. The game is to design bitcoin to be extensible but not become a tragedy of the commons. This sets a high bar for changing consensus rules as a soft fork and a very high bar for a hard fork.

completely agree.
i think that is the reason this issue is so contensious.
to say “match relay policy to consensus” when consensus says nothing, means there was no high bar to be met.
consensus answers the “what should we do”
all core v30/libera etc answered was “what can we do”
those are not the same, and should never be mistaken as such
