On the eve of our local government/public school going back.
We are starting our 5th-ish homeschool season and I’m happy to say the anxiety of this day has lessened. The first few “first day of school” days I always got anxious because I still “had time to think about it”. Now? While I still question if we’re doing the right thing. (What parent doesn’t?) I am at least comfortable with the decision we have made.
There has been no getting ready stress, no trying to fit everything we didn’t get to done before they go back. Our chaotic yet simple schedule has stayed the same.
If this is your first “first day of school” season as a homeschool parent, know that it gets easier. And almost energizing. That you have made a decision that even still today is against the grain and you are sticking with it.
This is kind of like the beginning of homeschool summer. All the fun places are still open yet not as crowded.
Go out and do something fun to commemorate the day and then start your schooling, whatever that looks like, when it feels right.
And to those families that have lovingly decided that public school is the perfect fit, I hope the year goes just as peaceful. Because neither decision is right or wrong, just different. #grownostr
