Are you running it on a raspberry pi? You shouldn’t have to keep the tab open and it should just work. I had similar problems but it was because I was running it on a raspberry pi with a crappy cable connecting to the external drive which constantly failed. Probably want to check your drive connection and seee if you e got enough memory on your machine to effectively sync the chain in a reasonable time.
