We need to crowd-fund a ROM based on a moderately recent Android version. Goal: no new version or major feature additions, just keep delivering security updates even after AOSP has stopped doing so. I'm fine with using only apps from f-droid. All I need is available there.

Mostly agree. But they're doing this only for Google's Pixel devices. I doubt that Google won't find a way in the future to prohibit or make impractical the use of GrapheneOS on their Pixels. Are you confident that Google won't?
