Specifically she equates this to the fact that we require age verification for purchasing tobacco, alcohol, & etc... so why not social media? This totally misses the fact that those are physical transactions occurring in real time between two physical human beings, and on the internet, nobody knows you're on a VPN. So any reasonable effective implementation of this policy would require one world government to meter internet access... That's a good thing?? 😒

@Globe99 it would be a terrible thing. I was so shocked by her position that I didn’t have a strong counter argument prepared! I’m running a campaign to stop age verification and bans from social media here in New Zealand, b416.nz
Fighting the good fight, that's great!✊ In the US seems like we already lost in SCOTUS.... I have to say though, these kinds of age verification practices, if they were seriously enforced, would push a whole lot of activity onto Nostr and similarly decentralized platforms. Especially porn. To quote Goldblum, "Life... uh.... Finds a way."
