One of the books I'm currently reading is Will Durrant's The Story of Civilization. I'm still on Volume 1. It's a multi-volume series he worked on throughout his life with the help of his wife Ariel Durrant.
It's making me see people in a magical way. A detailed writing of human history in a simple way.
I think I understand what you meant about the books that are read more for entertainment. They're a fun ride, but less likely to be impactful unless they're something that hits in a special meaningful way.
