The more apps created, the less people care about anyone’s app.
The question is: what comes next?

The long tail of innovation and adoption. Its everywhere.
I think in this phase we’re in now, innovation will be very short lived as it is constantly disrupted.
Base models are capturing most of the value.
Apps that independently make more apps for each other.
Silly question. More apps.
Think bigger. Beyond the age of apps. I think apps are a transition to what is next.
The void.
Of course I’m joking. The future will be just like Star Trek.
“Hello, computer…”

It wasn’t the case with YouTube videos or OnlyFans. We will likely end up with girls with big breasts selling software made by AI.
I’ll say for me personally, I’m trying to think of areas I can expand my thinking into areas beyond just web apps. Where the saturation is lower.
Have you seen the generative UI stuff where AI builds the interface on the fly? It’s not an app in the conventional sense, it’s just a uniquely generated interface specific to your task that’s immediately created and discarded
Kind of like this GenTab feature from Google Disco:
Yeah. That seems like the next phase. But I’m curious what’s after that - 5 or 10 iterations down the line 🤔
I couldn’t possibly predict it, but I think I’d have my favorite agent that would learn my preferences and information would be presented me in that way
This is much harder in today’s closed internet (because how would the AI pull the information if there’s no API), but with Nostr…
What are your thoughts on it?
GetTabs looks interesting in a sense that it is personalized to you and does not require programming. The fluidity of it is super useful and this is the one aspect that I think will carry on to future iterations of AI.
It’s kind of hard for me to put it into words, and I haven’t given it that much thought yet, but our current tooling feels like a means to and end. Tools to build what we’re looking to do, vs. just doing that thing near instantly.
Apps feel like a stepping stone, the ugly details behind the actual things we want to accomplish. Future AI will likely abstract away the concepts of apps entirely. You might have an operating system of sorts tuned to your preferences and taste. It might just do the thing you’re looking to do, without involving UI - or if UI is involved, it will be fluid, easy to discard, reset, and conjure up in mere seconds, maybe even possibly with thought or trained on your routine and behavior (or even your thoughts - all of your data).
It’s a bit hard to imagine what that looks like in practice - something has not been invented yet that will make it easier to imagine.
Nothing.. The app will just be the entire phone or implant, with a single pane of glass to your AI parent. You will be assigned a tech brand at birth, and then your entire life will be guided by that brand. Your recorded lived experience will be harvested for galactic entertainment. You will still never be told what is outside the 'zoo'.
Totally agree
A Home Screen with a bunch of icons for you to choose what portal of internet you want to enter is becoming obsolete
That got dark fast 🤣
My phone is already an answer.
I need texting/calling (SimpleX, Session, WhiteNoise)
I need public communication (Nostr)
I need money (Monero, LN, ecash)
Everything else is a distraction. I got rid of it.
Is it the app or the function that matters? Why can't everyone use their own tailor made app for everything?
I think we will start seeing apps being made on the fly for a specific purpose then being destroyed, just stored in Ram for whatever the user needs at the time.
Agreed - your OS will just do the thing. No specific app download required.
"Absolutely! It's fascinating how our devices can seamlessly handle tasks without the need for extra apps. Always a pleasant surprise when tech just works! 🌟"
that's my version of NPC ranting 😂
