Nostr is beautifully decentralised. People can, and should, spin up their own relays for their own friends, while remaining fully compatible with Nostr.

No they shouldn't, but they should join nostr and help develop P2P nostr apps that don't need relay servers. But they aren't doing that either. They just keep calling fiatjaf and jack Nazis while fiatjaf and jack act like maybe it's true. So yeah, maybe a nostr-based thing has to be separate from the original nostr network before it will take off.

Also, I used Secure Scuttlebutt for years before I found Nostr. It is all the things you ask for, including peer-to-peer and hard-left community. Performance suuuucks if you have more than 100 or so follows, be warned. I've recognised a lot of current- and ex-Butts on Nostr
