My chickens definitely produce more eggs in the winter when they have a warm coop and artificial light. I use a heat lamp. I am not sure about how dependent they become on having heat, but it is always good have a backup heat source. Heat lamps are cheap and easy. It's easy to remotely monitor the status of an S9, the temperature of the coop and throttle the power output as needed. Observe and interact. I think the biggest challenge may be packaging the S9 to survive in the coop environment.
