When mass adoption happens, users will decide what the name will be. I’m sure it wasn’t an arbitrary decision without analysis. My bet is that user were aware of Bitcoin but not aware of the 100,000,000 satoshi thing. So a tradeoff was made to just focus on the name thing and let the multiplier thing sort itself over time.
