So Trump is now asking for a pause on the TikTok ban. I don't think a lot of people understand how much money is flowing through that platform. I will continue to die on this hill, but if someone makes a Nostr clone, I think it would be the first mass adopted super app, especially if they nail the store piece. If you can keep more money in both the creators and store pockets, they're going to adopt it.

People are already talking about that as the big dream over on TikTok - as in, a web3 version of TikTok that could be (relatively) uncensored. I’ve seen several creators asking AI if it’s possible and how we can accomplish it 😄 I keep dropping comments about Nostr but these folks aren’t devs, they’re communicators like myself. But what people love about TikTok is its ease of use with green screen, audio sharing, live-streaming, and other content creation features, its storefront mechanism with commission structure for reviewers, and its virality potential (which essentially is driven by its social search engine style algorithm). It would take a team of geniuses to really recreate it, but it’s not impossible and web3 is what the people I’m hearing from ultimately want, especially creators who want more self-custody of their content and bitcoin payments integration. Not sure if that was helpful but that’s my 2 cents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Spot on. I met someone that had a small scale ecom biz in the beauty space that never did much before she had some product videos go viral. She didn't get into specific numbers, but she said she made more in a couple months after those than she had in multiple years running the biz. Knowing that ByteDance takes a large chunk off the top, there has to be plenty of meat on that bone for a competitor.
I can’t speak for the crowd but for me, Web3 encompasses the suite of new tech that prioritize decentralized self-custody of data and currency (like Bitcoin), transparency of transactions (like smart contracts), and semantic-search tools (like AI language modelers). The combination of these elements isn’t exactly compatible with the web2 way of doing things, but people are starting to understand why web3 is better than web2 and are building toward it every day.
