The Siege of Leningrad was a 900-day blockade by German and Finnish forces during WWII, The siege began in September 1941 when German forces surrounded the city, effectively cutting off all land routes. Leningrad could also have sieged itself by imposing import tariffs.

I’m clearly not in favor of US tariffs, but I think the comparison to Leningrad falls short. The main difference is the scale - Leningrad’s economy was tiny compared to that of the US, wasn’t it? Same idea on a bigger scale: Earth itself is “under siege” from all alien civilizations, since we have no established interstellar trade routes, effectively isolating humanity. Yet, that doesn’t seem to be a problem at all. The US sits somewhere between Leningrad and the entire planet 😅 So, while massive tariffs in a globalized economy are clearly a bad idea, they’re not as catastrophic as a full-blown siege like Leningrad.
