last night, i played quake with my son and his buddy. they're 16. it reminded me of playing quake with my buddies when i was their age 30 years ago. except i wasn't getting fragged by an adult non stop. yes, i owned them kids last night and it was glorious.

gotta keep them kids in line. im sure they'd kick my ass in some shitty roblox game or whatnot, but real FPS games, they don't stand a chance.
absolutely. some games were incredibly fast depending on the map. the server i used to play on had 2 mods. 1) they had a grappling hook, which meant you could fly around the map super fast and get to places you'd generally be unable to get to or have trouble getting to with a rocket jump and 2) the double barrel shotgun's power was turned up and was incredibly powerful at short distances.
absolutely. if you can remember the spawn locations and their rotation, you can dominate by locking down a few resource locations. once you have the map memorized, new players are fucked if you are already stocked up.
i don't believe i ever had a proper LAN party. the closest i came i guess was in high school. i built our new computer lab my senior year. then a bunch of us nerds used it to play quake. but normally when i played quake, it was via modem.
i didn't play much quake 2 back in the day because my computer at the time couldn't handle it :( but that's okay, i was hooked on starcraft by that time.
YAAAASSSS! i had a voodoo2 card. those things were fucking amazing back in the day! there's a handful of us nostriches that still play starcraft or at least played together a year ago :P we should bring this back.

Strafe jumping and rocket jumping.. These are important skills to pass along to the next generation. I opened a LAN center in 99’ shortly after high school. Four glorious years of my life. I might still boot up a little Quake Champions from time to time.
Oh you kids... Don't know what you were missing. Before Quake there was Doom (as you know) and I spent untold hours using a Doom Level Creator to recreate my whole dorm (some 30 floors and 24 rooms per floor). Those I liked I put treasures and weapons... Those I didn't like had demons. Alit was like an intro to the CAD world in 1994.

Nice! Of course you did. I do miss the days of having an in-game console that allowed for that much power.
Looking forward to playing Age of Empires 2 with my son! The game needs to stay alive at least another 10 years for that to happen!

Alive and well! Currently 18,439 people in game as of this moment, according to Steam stats.
Yes I still watch the tournaments on Youtube. Hopefully it's still kicking in 10 years!
