The counterpoint to the digital ID narrative is that our lives are already surveilled and our digital money (bank money) is already tied to our ID.
People should be more upset about the authorities getting rid of financial privacy and installing licence plate readers and surveillance cameras, with facial recognition, everywhere, not to mention all the online mass surveillance.

I agree but the digital ID ties them all together, enables one department to get information immediately from another. You get caught speeding in your car, your money is taken and your licence is marked. At the moment these things take months, sometimes get lost and you can appeal.
I think they might let us think we win by pulling back on Digital IDs while in reality, they'll just add some APIs for all the different DBs.
It's coming whatever we do. You may be right with their games they play. After all, they are so much smarter than us
