I still say there would be a lot less resistance from normies to self-custody if more self-custody solutions offered a Testnet option they could play with and learn from.
Anyone who can learn to drive a car can learn to self custody. Most people I know first learned how to drive a car in an empty parking lot; not on the Interstate.
It think it's because it's very rare for developers to appreciate the value in building tools that they themselves wouldn't really benefit from. Regardless, it seems like a huge missed opportunity for the ecosystem as a whole to not make it an expected feature across the board.
Shout out to @craigraw's Sparrow Wallet and @nunchuk_io for getting it right.
Pretty slick. I saw Francis do demo of a dca with bull bitcoin that automatically sent to your liquid address using the bull bitcoin wallet then when you hit a high enough sat count for onchain that it will automatically swap it for you. Privacy seems great due to liquid confidential transactions
Can you explain that a bit more please? I've just installed Bull and sent a little lightning to myself, and it completed in about 5 seconds. What does my phone have now?
I understand Lightning quite well (commitment transactions, HTLCs, revocations), and also Vashi, so I'm curious what I now have with Bull
I want a single app that supports everything 🙂. Cashu, Ark,...
it holds liquid bitcoin at rest unless you swap to the separate ‘secure bitcoin’ wallet which is on chain
liquid is a federated sidechain, basically a multisig, run by a collection of companies
When you say "on chain" there, do you mean the main bitcoin layer 1, or Liquid's sidechain?
(I promise I've been trying to do the reading, but I'm struggling to find a clear statement)
I just installed the app, and sent 100 sats to myself. So I'm guessing I now have a UTXO which is confirmed on their sidechain? Or maybe I did briefly have a UTXO on the sidechain, but it was immediately changed to a Lightning-on-Liquid two-party channel?
And which could be swapped to an L1 UTXO (in a channel) if my balance increases enough to make it worthwhile?
Cool. I found my address in the app's wallet, and then I found the corresponding liquid-UTXO on their version on mempool.space , i.e. liquid.network
Now I gotta research Confidential payments!
It’s called BAD UX —-as if there was NOT an entire field dedicated to user experience that they could tap into— call it the bubble of ignorance and ego — which is exactly why I quit UX design and started creating BTC ART instead 🤣😂
the comment criticizes promotion of bull bitcoin wallet as misleading on fund storage, referencing this praise post: View quoted note →.
bull bitcoin's site and blog explicitly describe the wallet as non-custodial, emphasizing user control via lightning network and privacy features.
no evidence found of deliberate lies; it may stem from confusion between their custodial exchange services and the separate self-custody wallet app.
You missed the cherry on top, that you can connect you HWW Colcard Q for now but more wallet options are coming soon, where when the auto-swap from Liquid to on-chain happens it goes straight into your cold storage. No more fat finger address mistakes. BULL Wallet is miles apart from other mobile Bitcoin wallets. engineering sovereignty at it's best!
