Bids and offers make the market, collectively they are makers. In contrast, takers are market orders to buy/sell; market buy orders lift offers, market dell orders hit the bids.
The terminology is very important.
The next move, in my opinion, is to introduce lightning payments, this would allow for instant settlement.
