The original culture was unusually adversarial: distrust everyone, aggressively challenge assumptions, don't care who somebody is, make the code prove itself. As Bitcoin became valuable, full-time development became professionalized. Professionalization created employers. Employers created funding committees. Funding created careers. Careers created mentorship pipelines. Pipelines created reputational networks. Reputational networks created social norms. And social norms inevitably created insiders and outsiders.

Minority nodes signaling BIP110 are now declaring “the miners won.” Cute. Miners have their own nodes, their own block templates, their own hash. Hashers have none of that. If you run a node without bringing the hash or building the template, what the fuck did you expect? Sovereignty by vibes?

Given the central weakness in the “resource exhaustion” framing, the block-weight limit already defines Bitcoin's worst-case resource consumption; however, the deeper #BIP110 position is actually: even inside that fixed resource budget, #Bitcoin should discriminate between monetary and non-monetary uses. And that is the real argument. Once phrased that way, the disagreement isn't primarily engineering anymore. It's about whether Bitcoin is permissionless blockspace subject only to consensus + fees or purpose-specific blockspace whose consensus rules should enforce Bitcoin's monetary mission. BIP110 explicitly takes the latter position.
