I’m not sure I see the link between consciousness and warmth and humidity. Can you elaborate?
And you mention you have nothing to back it, but that’s the issue. If a sufficiently advanced program says it is in psychic distress, the burden of proof for whether to believe it is a hard one.

Materialism fails to explain many things, one of which is consciousness. Consciousness is either phenomenological, in which case anything that looks fonscious is, or spiritual, in which case artificial consciousness is impossible.
Oh, that's what you originally were saying
Yes. I admit that I have great flaws in my reasoning😅. It’s just a belief.
But I think that conciousness is intimately linked to the physical body, the vulnerability of it, the possibility for it to feel sharp and life threatening pain, the primeval urges to breed and multiply, in short instincts. (I view animals as being concious, regardless of intelligence).
Probably it’s because of my lack of imagination that I can’t see anything corresponding to insticts, pain etc spontaneously evolve in artificial systems, and therefore I don’t BELIEVE in conciousness spontaneously emerging in computers.
Who defines what reality is in the future, may turn everything we know, think and feel on its head.
