Thread - Nostr Hypermedia

Went full #nixos on my day-to-day. I was braced for a hard adjustment, yet it was the easiest and cleanest Linux install I've ever done. Machine (ASUS Zenbook) is working like a dream, touchscreen, gestures, ports sound, everything. Snappy af. Now whenever I need a new machine I can just pull my config from a repo and restore, fetching all the apps I use. Theres no going back to Debian/Arch. Reproducible, declarative system builds for the win!

Do you have to fiddle with the os to get it work with apps and programs that you use?

Define fiddle, you add whatever you need to a configuration dot nix and `sudo nixos-rebuild switch`. Any issues you can role back at startup. Its very simple. Here's my day-to-day. All I need do is pull that into a new machine and boom, all apps I use installed.

It was so easy. If you've ever installed Linux, the nixos installer and declarative build system is waaaay simpler. I was amazed, having heard nixpilling required a load of effort, but this was easier than any other linux

Fiddle for for me is config dot nix, sudo… 😫 I’ve tried Ubuntu years ago and I couldn’t get to do what I wanted in terms of programs that I wanted on my system (and years of .exe hand holding), I am technical but not as technical as I would like to be, so this is a learning curve for me I’ll look into nixos, thanks I checked your GitHub, it’s nice that you can install all the programs if you had to restart

It was a pain at first but once I let Claude have a go, it's a no brainer. The nix shell alone is worth it (flake - special mention). Impermanence made me honest!
