I just think that claim is entirely subjective and arbitrary. It's absolutely possible to have an increase in purchasing power and freedom. I don't think the natural state of the world is to choose only one. I don't even think that's technically true for money. Fiat has less freedom and gets debased. Obviously it isn't so simple. Will those two things go up perfectly according to your standards? Perhaps not. Nor may it perfectly match your definition of freedom. That's an impossible standard, so in that sense, maybe you're subjectively right.

I don't know anything about the "natural state of the world" whatever that might be. I just know what I observe. My *observation is that NGU and (the very nebulous, ill-defined thing that we're calling) "freedom" seem to be negatively correlated.
