I’m glad you ask, I have a lot of thoughts actually about this now that I’ve had time to be in this space a few weeks paying attention to the community & comparing. The more I’m here as someone who wants to understand, who wants to navigate over & start to take back my life in ways I did not know I could; the more I begin to think it’s not something crazy new WOW that I want. It’s not something mind blowing that is supposed to rock me out of my mainstream socks & keep me here. I want fun yes, I want creative yes, I want to socialize and I want community. But more than anything I want all of that available to me in a way that is accessible & manageable & safe. That I can squeeze it into the chaos of my life, use it for the chaos of my life, grow from it or earn from it but not that makes my life so much more chaotic & intimidating & stressful. The convos I’m having & the feelings I’m relating to from non nostrs is surprising me but also not, we want stability. When we do see there’s another option out there other than what big tech is doing, it’s not a matter of just walking out the door. We don’t go back/stick to mainstreams because we love being controlled, we go back because uprooting our “lives” (and let’s be real socials/online/tech is our lives) to go somewhere we don’t even understand, to people who don’t seem to like us & think we are cringe & ignorant is a big ask when the world is burning around you already. So far I gather 1. We want community/existing safety nets, so if we come there…we want to feel seen/welcome there 2. We want enough ease to make the transition possible aka user experience allows for us to not feel stupid & overwhelmed just thinking about trying something new. 3. We want to stop bouncing around to a bunch of random sources needing a million different credentials from us (web fatigue/social platform disillusionment) having to restart & relearn every time. 4. We want to feel like ourselves again doing it 5. Our inner child is fucking dead and buried somewhere we don’t even know. We wanna find it, and bring it back.
