It definitely make sense through the lens of the state being run by what amounts to a criminal cartel. I really enjoyed Murray Rothbards writings on the nature of the State.

100%. And the basically one party system that runs this state has created a culture of complete lack of accountability. Nothing changes in a positive direction until there is a massive disaster.
