IMO that critique comes from his frequently bearish tone and not just the problems he is pointing out. Someone calling out an issue with a vibe of futility and hopelessness is totally different than rallying the troops to make progress toward a common goal. It's not it's his job to be cheerleader though and he is much appreciated just the way he is.
