I’m sorry but you may have misunderstood how money works. We won’t have to have some “plan” to value #Bitcoin when it’s the dominant money. It will be how we price everything else. That’s exactly how money works. The reason nobody talks about it is because it doesn’t make sense and it’s not a discussion that ever has to happen. How many times have you had to stress about “how to determine what a dollar is worth?” You just don’t. The market determines it through literally billions of transactions and exchanges. It’s the money printing that throws chaos and noise into that equation. Without that problem #Bitcoin will be vastly better and it will never be anything that one has to think about. No reason to be derisive, imo. Emergent systems are genuinely hard to wrap your head around if you haven’t explored them in depth. I mean how do we “value” what a chair is worth? The idea that there’s literally no such thing as a nominal measure of value is difficult to grasp when you think of everything in “prices.” It isn’t immediately obvious that this is a perfectly circular/relative logic, it has the *appearance* of being a simple nominal unit.
EM gave a quite good definition of money on lex podcast a few years ago: “… think of money as information. it’s just an entry in a database for resource allocation - a ratio of exchange”

Yeah, I'm not afraid to ask stupid questions, and I'm not afraid to admit that I have gaps in my knowledge and ignorance. Despite your comment here which isn't cool at all, I benefitted from all the replies on this post, even yours.

Do you think I shouldn't have asked the questions I did? Do you think my desire to learn and understand was not a good enough reason to ask what everyone else thinks is a stupid question? What do you think I should have done instead?

I disagree with you, because I have learned the value of humility plenty well in my life without needing to be ridiculed every time. If I see someone else asking questions like what I did in the future, I can now pay it forward, but I'm happy to know I can do so without your type of attitude.

I think this is exactly my issue. I'm in the process of trying to mold my mental framework into something new that is ready to adapt to what is coming in the future. And it's not as easy as I would have liked.
I don’t see anything wrong with asking questions in good faith, which i believe you did, although my opinion of your curiosity doesn’t really matter. That is why i (hopefully!) wasn’t shitting you in my comment as some seem to have been. But since you want my opinion on it, i would say you might’ve been a little confused or misdirected judging by the mention of a central committee to determine bitcoin’s value. Guy’s response above is great i think. No hard feelings over here whatsoever 🤙

Yeah, I realize I might have come across as a little too aggressive with my tone, but I stand by everything I wrote despite that. I get tired of seeing variations of the same memes and hype quotes recycled on a daily basis and want to take part in some more focused discussion from time to time. It's pretty interesting to me that the committee thing has been commented on several times. I think that people misunderstood me there... there's clearly a significant amount of sensitivity to even an implication of such a thing in the community. I was just writing the random musings in my head, I never wanted to imply that a committee of any kind is *actually* needed.
Stupid questions are the most important question of all because they're the only questions that show how badly we've communicated our ideas.
Of course, i didn’t take it as any kind of recommendation personally. The very concept of it is kind of silly though I totally commend your pursuit of more focused discussions too. This one just wasn’t received the way you were, which is never fun for the asker, but ultimately no one’s gonna hold a grudge for it. And if they do that person’s just a dick 😂
Every question is a learning opportunity, especially dumb ones. Not asking dumb questions saves momentary embarrassment at the expense of growth. That’s why they say there’s no such thing as a dumb question (as long as it’s in good faith)

You dont have to ask this question about anything in a free market. WE dont value anything. Individuals value goods based upon their needs and the supply of those goods. Value is entirely subjective. And I dont need anybody else to have a mechanism that tells me how much something us worth.
It’s difficult to imagine that any World Reserve Currency that is controlled by any government, would not eventually be abused by the politicians or rulers of that government. In that context, the only currencies that make sense are precious metals, and a decentralized digital currency (Bitcoin). Being that precious metals are difficult to store, transact with, and move around; Bitcoin makes the most sense.
