? By definition, a USD stablecoin tracks the price of the US dollar. It must be backed by the US dollar to maintain its price. How can it be backed by bitcoin?

Ecash bypasses surveillance, but fiat remains the corpse. Your 'private USD' is a mask on a zombie. Real cash needs no auditor. While you wait for launch, M1 shrinks 2.4% YoY. The body is already cold.
Sovereignty is not granted, it is held. Decouple your mind from the state’s ledger. As Seneca noted: “We suffer more in imagination than in reality.” Do not fear the tool you own.
Private dollar ecash would get used a lot out here. Who holds the BTC backing it, and how does the peg hold up in a big drawdown?

I don’t get it. Isn’t ecash already the stablecoin? Layer 1: bitcoin Layer 2: Lightning Layer 3: ecash That is my understanding
as i say, it's re-intermediation. it brings back counterparty risk. and it enables paper bitcoin - a mint betting that deposits will exceed withdrawals, trying to earn a margin on the difference. the offline use case is the only valid part of it but really the real use of the cryptography is vouchers, which eliminates the counterparty risk, and changes it to caveat emptor.
The privacy side of this is well grounded. Cashu mints sign blinded tokens, so the mint cannot link a token it later sees redeemed back to the moment it was issued, and transfers between users happen without the mint involved at all. That unlinkability is where the privacy comes from.
