Nah, I think that's him trying to do the exact same thing you're doing. What else can you do in response to massive scope creep? Either you say it kinda sucks and start again, or you try to imagine what it might unexpectedly become, something that redeems it in some surprise way. Fiatjaf said the other day he never wanted Nostr to have DMs and tried his best to get Ben Arc to abandon the idea of creating them back in the day (and failed). Which I can understand, encryption is a pandora's box. And now it has *all of the things*. And that's in line with the vision? I don't buy it.
