There's the Meatloaf principle in action. We could fix the problem now, with a technology that works and that comes with five decades of data on its downstream effects. But instead, lets do nothing but share pie-in-the-sky dreams of technologies that don't exist (and likely can't without "new physics"). Humanity hasn't suffered enough yet. We'll know when they have
