This won’t sit well with everyone, but Lightning isn’t pleasant to work with if you’re not running your own node. You hit walls quickly. And the wallet inconsistencies just make it worse.
It’s not a design flaw. it’s just a different philosophy. At one point, there was even a spec for a “verify” URL to check payment status, but it got shut down for encouraging what they called lazy programming.
