For the built-in wallet, we use Spark/Breez. We know some users have different views on Spark, but we believe it’s the best option today and a better model than relying on a third party to maintain Lightning channels.

I’ve been building on that platform for a year. I was using it before it supported zaps. I built the first @Breez ⚡️ wallet into a production Nostr client, @Zap Cooking and then into @Wisp. 😉
Nobody enjoys liquidity work, so the trade makes sense. A channel costs an on-chain open and a close, plus whatever inbound costs, and the close gets expensive exactly when fees spike. Spark moves that onto the operator, fine while the exit stays cheap.
