It seems the argument is that every upcoming presidential election is the most important of our time. I would argue the opposite. Any candidate that has a chance of winning will continue to perpetuate the status quo. Elections are becoming less and less important.

Agree. We put way too much hope on the presidency and senators and governors. Politics is hopelessly deadlocked in distracting media-driven culture wars, while technologies are actually transforming every aspect of our world. Those are what are worth watching.

In my limited experience, politicians above the local level are kept very busy, and mostly only see what is put in front of them. If you can gatekeep that, you have real power. Even if the politician is themselves incorruptible, fearless, uninterested in peer approval and very knowledgable and sharp.
