My thoughts aren’t fully formed yet but the institutions are there to protect the innocent from unjust state actions. Due process isn’t for the criminal. It’s for us, to keep us from being treated like criminals. So, my current feelings are that you’d better be right if you’re going to intentionally ignore those institutional protections and be willing to be held personally responsible if you’re wrong.

Yes, you had better be right. And it had better be the case that what you did was necessary due to the corrosion and corruption of those institutions that are no longer serving their intended mission.
