I'm glad to hear you have a relationship with Jesus. I used to be an atheist in highschool as well. It's hard not to end up there with the way society is today. In a way I think it was a positive experience to break down my ideology and build it back with intention. I understand your point about the desire for an altruistic state, though I'm personally skeptical that such a thing can exist. I know the masses will opt for self imprisonment over liberty 9 times out of 10, but that doesn't necessarily have to be my problem. As I see it, building a well defended sovereign community which can engage in commerce with other sovereign communities is the ideal scenario. Each community would have their own governance structure and shared values, but they would likely remain under a few thousand individuals in each group by my estimation. I don't see much benefit to growing beyond that size. Harnessing the state to dictate rules to the masses is a potential option. The risk in doing that is gradually becoming the monsters we want to defend ourselves from. I believe this is the tendency and trajectory of any centrally planned governance structure. The whole issue of harnessing the state is the central metaphor behind LOTR. Do we keep the ring or throw it in the fire? Hitler during WW2 does not provide a contrary example to this; despite the massively propagandized intellectual blind spot he represents in human history. There are several books written about how he was supported by and cooperated with the international bankers during his reign.
